Track & Field season is coming!  There are only 74 days until the start of practice!

It’s time to redeem your 5 Star Points for prizes! The web store is open!  Go to the 5 Star App, or to SAIL@AHS under Our School on the main web page to find out how many 5 Star points you have and to redeem them online for prizes! The window to redeem online will close TODAY at 4 pm. You will be able to pick up your prizes after Thanksgiving from ASB in a Box. 

Varsity Football takes on St. Ignatius tonight in San Francisco at 7 PM for the CCS semi-finals in the playoffs.  Tickets will again be digital tickets only, and remember, screenshots will not be accepted.

We are also cheering on Trent Nosky who is competing at the state level in Fresno this weekend for cross country.

Aptos High School's Empty Bowls Fundraiser is back! Come to the cafeteria this evening from 6 to 7:30. You can take home a beautiful bowl made by the Ceramics class, eat some delicious soup made by the Culinary Arts class and listen to our incredible chamber Choir perform. Tickets are only $20! Check the Activities web page or Boosters page for more details.

It was a busy week in the world for Mariner Athletics... Girls Tennis Team traveled to Menlo Atherton for the 1st round of CCS playoffs where they lost a tough match up on Wednesday. Girls tennis had an amazing season and they finished the season as SCCAL champs .

In singles tennis, Holly Hegna represented the Mariners at Bay Country Club yesterday in Los Gatos!

Girls Water had a great match in the CCS semifinals last week to Stevenson. The Mariners fought hard and had a very successful season despite the loss.

Cross Country also competed in the CCS finals last weekend. The girls team finished 10th overall and boys finished 11th, and our very own Trent Nosky finished first and captured an individual CCS title! Big congrats to Trent who will compete at the state level in Fresno!

Congrats to Varsity football who has won in the opening round of the CCS playoffs on Friday night. Mariner football will travel to St. Ignatius in San Francisco this Friday at 7 PM. Tickets will again be digital tickets only, and remember, screenshots will not be accepted.

And finally,  Congrats again to all our Senior Fall Athletes for a great Fall season!

Congratulations Aptos Surf Team for taking on Marin County today at Pleasure Point today. Aptos Swept their heats with 1st 2nd and 3rd places in the team rounds. Nick Hambright, Ryder Barton, and Gamble Kellermeyer all made the Semifinals. Huge shoutout to finalists Holly Hegna, 3rd overall in shortboard and Bellame Breen 6th overall in longboard.

Tuesday, November 8

Today is election day. If you are 18 or older, be sure to vote! If you already did, wear your sticker proudly. If you aren’t old enough to vote, you are old enough to be an active citizen and watch the results. Each issue and selected candidate has an impact. Tune in to the world around us.

OK, Mariner, today’s sports joke:. Why don’t fish play volleyball? Because they are afraid of the net. Ha ha. Luckily, our Mariners are fearless. Our Girls Varsity Team qualified for the CCS playoffs last week. They lost their first round match to Capuchino, but we are super proud of the team. Big congrats to our 9 Seniors.

Next sports joke: Why was the water polo player’s partner proud that she was a goalie? Because she was a keeper. Ha ha? Good luck, Girls Water Polo who is playing Stevenson High School in Mountain View tomorrow for a tough semi-finals contest!

By the way, no joke, Girls  tennis was moved to tomorrow  due to Monday’s rain.The team will travel to Menlo-Atherton tomorrow for a 2pm start.

Also, overdue congratulations to cheer who took second place in their weekend competition in Fresno! They competed in the USA Central California Regionals and represented Aptos extremely well.

Congrats to Cross Country as they prepare for the CCS Finals held this Saturday at Crystal Springs in San Jose.

This Friday Aptos will host a first round playoff football game against Christopher HS, here at home at 7 pm. It is very important to note that ALL tickets for the playoffs will be digital tickets purchased online only! There will be no cash at the gate. Again, please pre-purchase all tickets online through GOFan.co

Friday is a national holiday. We honor our veterans, which include some of our own Mariners. Thanks for your service and sending love in memory of all that we have lost in the call to duty.

Monday, November 7

November is Native American Heritage Month. We honor the land and the people who came before us. The Amah Mutsun Tribal Band are the indigenous people in our community whose ancestors were forced to the Missions of Santa Cruz and San Juan Bautista. Use this month to acknowledge and learn about indigenous people and the history of our community.

What did the receiver say to the football? Catch you later. Ha ha.

Congratulations to boys varsity football. They will play Christopher High School in the quarter finals this Friday at Aptos High at 7 pm. Details to follow.

We would like to express gratitude to Ms. Herzer, Ms. McDowell, Ms. Rice and Ms. Tovani for positively acknowledging students with the Mariner Moment award for the week of October 31st to November 4th. 

  • Ms. Herzer  honored Emily Abounds for leading by example and Guy Arista for aspiring higher. 

  • Ms. McDowell honored Libby Reynolds, Kilian Kumada-McGowan, Alex Sandoval, Dominick Faria, and Isai Cardenas-Flores for being integrity oriented,  leading by example, aspiring higher, and maintaining a safe community.  

  • Ms. Rice honored Ella Porter for leading by example and aspiring higher.

Ms. Rice also honored Madison Redding for Aspiring Higher, being Integrity Oriented and Leading by Example. 

Another student honored by Ms. Rice is Nahla Alcaraz for being Integrity Oriented and Leading by Example.

Lastly, Ms. Rice recognized Diego Mejia for leading by example. 

 

  • Finally, Ms. Tovani honored Bianca Alvarez for aspiring higher, Mia Trujillo for being integrity oriented, and Owen Warmerdam for aspiring higher and being integrity oriented. 

Thank you Mariners for acknowledging the positive behaviors of our students! Honorees receive 25 “5-Star” points for being recognized for their contribution to a positive school culture at AHS.


 

 

Friday, November 4

TODAY is Club Carnival on Anchors Way and the Main Quad at lunch. Bring some cash, get some treats and support our clubs!

We would like to give a big congrats to our Girls Indoor Varsity Volleyball Team. They qualified for the CCS Playoffs and traveled up to San Bruno on Tuesday for their first round match. The Mariners fell to Capuchino High School in 3 sets. We are extremely proud of all our VB students on a great season and a big congrats to our 9 seniors for making CCS in their final run!

Girls Tennis competed in the Individual and Doubled Finals yesterday at Imperial Courts.The Mariners sent Tiana Smith, Coral Collins, Madison Phillips, Jill Beltran, Holly Hegna and Autumn Zaretzky. After 2 days of rain the play concluded. Madison and Jillian finished 2nd overall in the doubles side, and BIg shout out to Holly Hegna on being crowned teh SCCAL Singles Champion! The Mariners will await their fate for the CCS tournament on Monday!

Yesterday was also the SCCAL Cross Country Finals. The Mariners had a good showing. Our JV Boys took 3rd overall and JV Girls finished 2nd. Our Frosh/Soph Boys took 1st overall. On the Varsity side, our Girls finished 4th overall and Boys Varsity finished 3rd as a team. The highlight of the day came as Senior Trent Nosky poured it on and upset the top seed, taking home the title of League Champion! CCS Cross Country will take place next week.

Tonight will be our Senior Night for Football, Cheer, and Dance! The Varsity game will start at 7:30 vs Holister. Students should provide an ID at the door, and all bags are subject to be searched.

To finish off the weekend, our Girls Water polo will be hosting CCS play here at Aptos tomorrow morning. The #3 seed Mariners will host the #6 seed Burlingame Panthers at 10 am!

Tuesday, November 1st

Greetings to you on the Day of the Dead, Dia de la Muerte. May you remember all those who have passed through our lives and our families today.

"Our first 5 Star Fest of the year is coming up at the end of November. Students can redeem their 5 star points for prizes! Next week in tutorial, you will learn how to check how many points you have, and how to self-redeem for prizes. The window to self-redeem is Mon 11/14 - Fri 11/18. Stay tuned for more info next week on 5 star fest!"

"The AHS Garage Band is seeking AHS students who would like to audition to be our drummer. If you enjoy making music with other people and have experience or ability playing drums, please stop by room E-212 on a Tuesday during lunch to meet the band and arrange a time to audition."

Don’t forget to bring CASH for Club Carnival on Friday and if you're in a club, fill out the participation form. It’s due today! 

This Thursday at lunch the bring change to mind club will be having a guest speaker to come talk about mental health in e -100. There will be treats provided so come join us!!

Also  are you in need of community service hours? Well the Surfrider Club will be having a campus cleanup this Saturday from 10-12 on campus.
