About Mrs. Kris

I graduated from San Jose State University with a Bachelors of Science degree in Biological Sciences with a Concentration in Conservation and Organismal Biology.  I hold credentials to teach chemistry, general sciences, and biological sciences.   I have worked in Santa Cruz County as an environmental scientist, and I have taught in both North Monterey and Santa Clara County.  As well, I have worked as a teacher with the COSMOS Summer Program at the University of California Santa Cruz in 2011, 2013 and 2015.

During the summer of 2016 and 2017 I was awarded the opportunity to participate in the Great American Biotic Interchange Research Experience for Teachers (GABI RET) funded by the National Science Foundation and organized by the University of Florida. The GABI RET allowed me to work alongside scientific researchers and teachers to explore the field of paleontology in Panama (2016), Florida (2016) and New Mexico (2017). I have used the resources from the experience to advance my teaching of science practices, climate change, biodiversity, and evolution.

This year I am participating in the Santa Cruz County Office of Education's Science Teacher Leadership Initiative.  The SCCOE STLI will support my role as PVUSD's Science Teacher Leader in developing our district's plan for implementation of the Next Generation Science Standards K-12.  As well, I am a Tech Liaison for PVUSD and a blogger on KQED's "In the Classroom".

I am a alumna of Aptos High School, and my family and I currently reside in Watsonville.  I have lived in the Central Coast my entire life.

At Aptos High School you can find me in the classroom with my students, participating in school events, and/or involving myself in various school clubs and activities.  This is my fourth year at AHS, and I am proud to be Mariner! Go Mariners!

Mission Statement:

My mission within the course is to promote curiosity about the natural world while cultivating knowledge through the use of constructive learning experiences.
